Proposed Pinal County Martin Luther King Proclamation

Updated: Dec 26, 2023

During January, America celebrates a national holiday on the 3rd Monday of the month in honor of the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr.  President Ronald Reagan, in his proclamation marking the first observance of the holiday, said, “Dr. King’s activism was rooted in the true patriotism that cherished America’s ideals and strives to narrow the gap between those ideals and reality.  Let all Americans of every race and creed and color work together to build a shining city of brotherhood, justice, and harmony in this blessed land.”

President Joe Biden's proclamation for this holiday last year said, “In his memory, we strive to challenge violence and bigotry with grace and goodness.  And we serve to bring together a Nation in our dedication to these ideals.

In Pinal County, let us proclaim our desire to follow in the footsteps of Martin Luther King and pursue our goals through non-violence and the democratic process.  Let us seek to be role models of civility in speaking, service, and respect for each other. Let us work to make Pinal County a role model for individuals in the community who seek justice, harmony, and service to each other. We have role models in Pinal County that follow in the footsteps of Martin Luther King, let us continue to support them and all the people in our government, schools, non-profits and businesses that exemplify the ideals of Martin Luther King Jr.

One such role model is the President of Pinal County NAACP, Constance Hunsberger Jackson.
